Finding your way

The historic centre lies on the left bank of the Tiber; on the right bank are Trastevere and Vatican City, a state separate from Italy. Most major sites are within walking distance of each other.

Getting around

ATAC runs three metro lines (A, B and C), buses and trams. Much of the centre is a limited traffic zone for cars. Tickets: atac.roma.it.

Getting there

Two airports, Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) and Ciampino. Roma Termini is the city’s main station.

Places of worship

Clothing covering shoulders and knees is required in the basilicas, St Peter’s in particular.
